Ed, and all, I’ve been loading my .223 with Win 748. Any suggestions on alternate/better/cleaner powders for me?

And then Ed, can you get it for me? Thanks.

I use H335. Works good for me.

When I was shooting the National Match course, I had good luck with H322. The new Hodgden CFE was designed for this cartridge, and should be great. A selection of current loading manuals, and the powder makers online web sites, are your best friend here. Lots of information out there. 223 is probably the most widely reloaded caliber in the world right now.

Win748 is my go-to, very consistent metering and produces nice groups. I’ve also used Varget, H335, Ramshot, Reloader15, and Benchmark, all with good results. Some meter better than others and some are noticably dirtier than others. Get some 1 lb containers and see what works best with your equipment and in your gun and go with it.

H4198 and IMR 4198 both work well for 55-62gr around 18.5-20.5. These are both extruded pellet type but meter fine. If a 62gr and above is used you might want something that burns a little slower like IMR 4320, Reloader15, Win748-760. I have had 0 issues on 3 AR’s 16″ 1-7,1-8 twist 5.56 chamber.

Try the new Hodgdon CFE223. The Copper Fouling Eraser addative actually prevents copper buildup in the bore and will remove existing buildup while shooting. It is clean burning, easy to meter being a spherical powder and the ballistics are great.

Varget works well for heavy bullets like 77gn
