Ammo in clip

Just wondering how long ammo should be left in a clip. A buddy says he empties his clips every couple of days so he can relieve the pressure on the spring. This is for a handgun. Just wondering if leaving the ammo in the clip for extended periods is harmful.

Good springs no problem…

cheap crappy guns typically give you problems springs not heat treated well/….

from everything I’ve read and understand about physics it’s what your friend is doing that will ruin the springs.

Springs wear out from use, not remaining either way statically.

That is, leave a mag loaded for 30 years, or empty for 30 years, and it’ll be fine… load and unload the thing daily it’s far far far more likely to wear the spring out (though it’ll still take a while with quality mags/springs).

Same thing with the Garage door spring up and down a bunch and you have to replace, leave it alone and never replace
